Bonanza Creek is part of the Voldseth Ranch, a guest and working cattle ranch in the Crazy and Castle Mountains of south central Montana. On a clear day, you can see up to six different mountain ranges.
This is ‘Big Sky’ country with beautiful open scenery and high wooded valleys known for good water and rich grazing. The Voldseth family has been ranching here for over 100 years and today the ranch runs a large herd of cattle on 25,000 acres.
Mainly Quarter Horses with some Mustangs and other breeds mixed in, the ranch horses are well schooled, responsive and a pleasure to ride. There are plenty of good mounts for experienced riders and steadier horses for those just learning. The rides take you through the wonderful Montana landscape with breathtaking views across meadows, along wooded mountainsides and past clear sparkling lakes. Rides vary in length from morning and afternoon rides to all day rides with lunch on the trail. On a typical week during the summer months you normally have a breakfast ride and an evening wagon ride and cook out.
Riding groups are split according to ability. Western riding lessons are available on the Monday morning (they are at an extra cost and should be pre-booked).
During the summer cattle work is usually available once or twice a week and might include checking for sick or injured stock, moving them from pasture to pasture, whatever is required. Moving cattle is great fun and often a challenge, especially in the arena when you try your hand at team penning.
The accommodation is in four beautiful cabins, each tastefully decorated with its own private bathroom and woodstove. The main lodge has a dining room, large fireplace, library, outside deck and small shop. Meals are served family style in the main lodge. You won’t go hungry with hearty country breakfasts, fresh baked bread and sizzling steaks off the grill. Massage treatments can also be arranged to help you relax after a day in the saddle.
In a beautiful remote setting between the Castle and Crazy mountains in mid Montana. Nearest airport is Bozeman.
Summer is often warm and sunny, but can rain, may be hot in mid summer. Spring and Autumn averages 15–20°C.
