Du rir langs vingårder og vakre landsbyer, gjennom grønnkledde daler og skoger som var de kongelige jaktmarker. Dette er ikke Loiredalen for turistbusser og trengsel av mennesker. Loiredalen strekker seg langs breddene av elven Loire, fra sør for Paris til Atlanterhavet. Loiredalen og slottene har sjarmert besøkende i århundrer og er et av de mest berømte og vakre områdene i Frankrike. Slottenes utsmykkende arkitektur, raffinerte dekorasjoner og overdådige hager var designet for å imponere. Å ri fra slott til slott tar deg tilbake til det 16. århundre når adelen og de kongelige bygget fantastisk vakre slott gjennom dalen for å vise sin rikdom og makt. Høydepunktet inkluderer blant annet Grand Chateau de Chambord som er bygd i den eiendommelige Renessanse stilen. Beauregard til Amboise:

Et ritt gjennom den franske historien rundt de mest berømte slottene i Loiredalen. Du begynner i de franske kongers jaktskoger, omkring de vakre renessanse slottene Chambord, Beauregard, Cheverny, Blois, Chenonceau og Amboise mens du følger Cher elvens bredder og slutter i Amboise skogen.

Saumur til Villandry:

Et ritt med litt mere tempo med lange galoppstrekk gjennom vinmarker, fruktplantasjer, skoger og langs elver. Du blir tatt i mot i de franske aristokratenes slott mens du rir gjennom historien og avslutter ved det praktfulle Chateau de Villandry med sine berømte hager.

Cadre Noir Saumur:

En tur som kombinerer ridning rundt de berømte slott og klostre ved Saumur. Høydepunktet er et besøk på Cadre Noir som tilhører Ecole Nationale d’Equitation (den nasjonale franske rideskolen) med privat undervisning, tillatelse til å ri inn og utforske Hippodrome de Verrie på hesteryggen samt en privat klinikk ved deres dyktige Ecuyer som instruktør.

Ridningen Loiredalen: 

Hestene er av forskjellige raser som er velskolerte, pålitelige og sikre. Du må være sikker i salen i både skritt, trav og galopp ute i naturen. Du må selv sale på, men det vil folk der til å hjelpe deg. På Saumur turene er det variert tempo med mange muligheter for lange travstrekk og galopper. På Beauregard til Amboise turen er det et mere avslappet tempo med færre muligheter for galopp.

Det er normalt maks 10 personer i en gruppen. Maks vekt ca 100 kg. 2-5 timer i salen hver dag.

 

Beauregard to Amboise (3 or 6 nights)

Starting in the favourite hunting forests of the renaissance French kings, you ride along the banks of the river Cher and finish amongst the chestnut trees of the Amboise forest. On this itinerary you visit some of the most famous castles of the Loire including Chambord, Beauregard, Cheverny, Blois, Chenonceau and Amboise. These wonderful renaissance castles bring us into the heart of French History.

The following is the planned itinerary. Please note that changes to the accommodation or route may be made due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Any changes are made with your best interests in mind.

It is possible to do the first three nights, or the second three nights or the complete six night tour.
Day One
Arrive at Château du Breuil near Cheverny, where you will stay for 2 nights. The nearest train station is Blois. A taxi will be pre-booked to take you to Château du Breuil (payable locally). The journey is approximately 18km and you should aim to arrive between 4pm and 7pm.

On arrival, be shown to your room. Later there will be dinner and ride briefing.

Overnight at Château du Breuil.

Day Two
After breakfast you ride for around an hour to Château de Beauregard through the countryside and vineyards. Guided tour of Château de Beauregard.

Picnic lunch at Château de Beauregard. Journey on horseback through the countryside and pass by the Cheverny vineyards.

Dinner and overnight at Château du Breuil.

Day Three
It is a ride of approximately 3 hours through beautiful countryside and the historic Boulogne Forest to Château de Chambord.

Lunch will be in Chambord. Afterwards, see the horse show and have the chance to explore the Château.

Chambord is one of the most extravagant of all the Châteaux in the Loire region. It was the ultimate hunting lodge with stabling for 1,200 horses in the 17th century. It is also well known for its double helix staircase where you can see who is coming up when you are going down but you never meet them.

Later, transfer to Blois for dinner and overnight at Coté Loire.

This evening you will have the chance to attend the light show at Château de Blois.

Day Four
After breakfast those who are leaving depart by car or taxi (own account). If travelling by train, a taxi will be pre-booked to take you to Blois station.

If you are staying the full six days, spend the day exploring explore Blois. Re-visit the castle or wander around the shops – there is a good selection. Later you are transferred to Château de l’isle near Chenonceau where you stay for the next three nights.

Those who are arriving for the last three nights will make their own way to Château de l’isle. If travelling by train, a taxi will be pre-booked to transfer you from Amboise station to Château de l’isle. The taxi is payable locally and you should aim to arrive between 4.30pm and 7pm.

Day Five
This morning you ride in the direction of Château de Chenonceau.

Dinner at Château de Beaulieu  The formal gardens at Chenonceau

Visit the Château and gardens on arrival. After lunch, set off on horseback to Château de Nitray. En route you ride along the Cher River. Later, visit the caves, cellar and wine museum of Château de Nitray.

Dinner and overnight at Château de l’isle.

Day Six
Ride in the direction of Pagode de Chanteloup. This oriental inspired seven storey folly is all that remains of the original Chateau.

Ride along the Cher River and into Amboise forest. Enjoy a beautiful picnic in the gardens of the Pagode.

This afternoon ride to Château d’Amboise  via the old town of Amboise. It is a special experience to arrive at the château on horseback through “le porte des Lions”.

Later, have a guided visit of Château d’Amboise where Leonardo da Vinci is buried.

Dinner at Amboise. Overnight at Château de Pray in Amboise.

Day Seven
Final breakfast at Château de Pray. If travelling by train, a pre-arranged taxi (payable locally) will take you to Amboise station. Depart between 8 and 11am.

Saumur to Villandry (3 or 6 nights)

Set off from Saumur and journey through a landscape of vineyards, troglodyte caves and castles. Meet charismatic French aristocrats along the way and wind your way through forests, orchards and alongside rivers. The six night ride finishes at Château de Villandry, with the chance to visit its famous gardens.

The following is the planned itinerary. Please note that changes to the accommodation or route may be made due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Any changes are made with your best interests in mind.

It is possible to do the first three nights of this itinerary and have two days of riding, leaving at Abbaye de Fontevraud.

Day One
Arrive at Saumur station in the afternoon and be transferred to Château de Beaulieu.

The collection at Saumur station is at 5pm. Alternatively you could make your own way by car, in which case your arrival time should be between 5pm and 7pm. On arrival you will be shown to your room and have the chance to relax before dinner.
This evening have a ride briefing. Learn more about the week ahead and the area you will be riding through.

Dinner and overnight at Château de Beaulieu.

Day Two
Today you ride for approximately two hours past vineyards and along the Loire River to Château de Montsoreau. Along the way you will see a magnificent view of Château de Saumur.

There may be a chance of some Champigny wine tasting in a troglodyte cellar before a gourmet lunch at a local restaurant.

This afternoon’s ride (another c. 2 hours) takes you past the Champigny vineyards and along the Loire River to Château de Montsoreau which gave inspiration to French writer Alexandre Dumas for his book “La Dame de Montsoreau”.

Dinner and overnight at Château de Beaulieu for a second night.

Day Three
This morning ride through beautiful countryside in the direction of Château de Brézé (c. 2 hours in the saddle).

Have lunch in the old stables of the château. Afterwards there should be time to visit the château itself.

In the afternoon, ride for about 2 hours. Journey past vineyards and woods to Abbaye de Fontevraud.

It is a very special experience to arrive here on horseback and you will also have the chance to visit Abbaye de Fontevraud on foot.

Dinner and overnight at Domaine de Mestré at Fontevraud (the old farm belonging to the Abbaye).

Day Four
Those staying three nights, depart this morning by car or taxi. If travelling by train, a taxi will be pre-booked to take you to Saumur station.

Today’s ride takes you to Château de la Roche Martel, a private and historical Château (about 2 hours in the saddle). Meet the owners, have a picnic lunch and explore the Château.

Afternoon ride (c. 2 hours) to Château de Ternay. Cordial welcome by the Count and Countess of Ternay.

Dinner and overnight at Château de Ternay.

Day Five
Journey on horseback for approximately 2 hours through Chinon Forest in the direction of Château d’Ussé, known as ‘the Sleeping Beauty Château’.

Have lunch in Ussé.

In the afternoon, ride to Azay le Rideau, usually with fantastic opportunities for longer canters along the Indre River, through woodland and orchards (c. 2 hours of riding).

Later you will be transferred back to the historic town of Chinon. There will be time for you explore the town which is well known for its wines as well as its castle.

Overnight in Chinon.

Day Six
Ride through pretty countryside, vineyards and woods to Château de Villandry.

Lunch and afternoon visit of the gardens at Château de Villandry.

Afternoon transfer to Château de Gizeux. Dinner and overnight in Château de Gizeux.

Day Seven
After breakfast (depart between 8am and 11am), say goodbye to your hosts and guide and transfer to Tours Saint Pierre des Corps station for your rail journey home or continue your travel plans.

Bayeux to Mont Saint Michel (6 nights)

On this itinerary you visit some of the most famous castles of Normandy, as well as the famous Bayeux Tapestry. You will overnight in wonderful châteaux, a grand manor house and a coastal hotel.

The following is the planned itinerary. Please note that changes to the accommodation or route may be made due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Any changes are made with your best interests in mind.

Day One
Afternoon arrival at Château de Bellefontaine near Bayeux, your home for the next two nights.

The nearest train station is Bayeux. A taxi will be pre-booked to take you from the station to Château de Bellefontaine (payable locally). Alternatively you may prefer to self-drive.

This evening, there will be dinner and a ride briefing with your guide. Discuss the plan for the week ahead and learn about your horses.

Dinner and overnight at Château de Bellefontaine, (www.hotel-bellefontaine.com).

Day Two
After breakfast at the château, set off on a ride of approximately two hours through the hilly landscape of Normandy.

Arrive at the old city of Creuilly and visit the medieval Château de Creuilly and the XIII Century Church St Martin.

Lunch will be in Creuilly or at Château de Brécy.

In the afternoon, explore more of the Normandy countryside on horseback, before arriving back at Château de Bellefontaine in Bayeux.

Dinner and overnight at Château de Bellefontaine.

Day Three
This morning there will be a visit to Bayeux cathedral, which houses the famous 11th Century Bayeux tapestry.

After lunch, there is an afternoon ride (c. 2 hours) to Arromanches. There should be spectacular views of the famous Mulberry Port on a clear day.

Depending on the tide conditions, there may be the chance for some canters along the beach.

Arrive at Hotel La Marine in Arromanches.

Dinner and overnight at Hotel La Marine.

Day Four
After breakfast, you will set off on horseback. Ride alongside the cliffs and countryside surrounding Arromanches, (c. 2.5 hours).

Lunch will be in Port en Bessin.

This afternoon’s two hour ride takes you onto the cliffs overlooking Omaha beach.

After riding, there is the chance to visit the memorial or military cemetery. Then transfer by car to Chateau d’Agneaux, near Saint-Lô.

Dinner and overnight at Chateau d’Agneaux.

Day Five
This morning, ride along the River La Vire for approximately one hour to ‘Haras de Saint Lo’, the home of the famous Selle Français breed.

Visit the stud buildings and perhaps see a presentation of the stallions.

After lunch there may be a special clinic from a show-jumping French rider in Saint Lo. Ride along the river to Agneaux.

Later, transfer by car to Manoir du Brion, a historic manor house in Mont Saint Michel Bay.

Dinner and overnight in Manoir du Brion

Day Six
Today you will experience about five hours of riding in Mont Saint Michel Bay, or to Mont Saint Michel itself depending on the tide conditions.

Lunch will be a picnic en route, or in an authentic créperie.

Dinner and overnight in Manoir du Brion.

Day Seven
Your driver will transfer you from Manoir de Brion to the little SNCF station at Pontorson (payable locally). From here you can take a bus or train to Rennes TGV station and then catch your train to Paris.

Cadre Noir Saumur

A very special ride which offer the chance to see into the inner workings of the famous Cadre Noir and Ecole Nationale d’Equitation. During this amazing itinerary you will explore on horseback the grounds of the national riding school, have lunch with riding masters, enjoy private guided tours, meet famous boot makers and experience some superb riding though pretty Loire scenery. The ride ends in style with a spectacular evening gala performance at the famous Cadre Noir.

Day One
Arrive at Saumur train station in the afternoon. A taxi will be pre-booked to take you from the station to Le Patio (payable locally).

This evening, there will be dinner and a ride briefing with your guide. Discuss the plan for the week ahead and learn about your horses.

Dinner and overnight at Le Patio in Saumur.

Day Two
After breakfast, you will begin riding (c. 1.5 hours). Journey to the heights of Saint Hilaire Saint Florent. This is where the prestigious Cadre Noir and Ecole Nationale d’Equitation (French national riding school) is located.

Have lunch at the French riding school, accompanied by an ‘Ecuyer’ (riding master) of the Cadre Noir.

After lunch, you will have a private ride (c. 1.5 hours) inside the Ecole Nationale d’Equitation and special authorization to explore and discover on horseback the eventing fences of the Hippodrome de Verrie where the International three day events are run. There may be good opportunities for cantering this afternoon.

Later, experience a private guided visit of the stables of Cadre Noir and Ecole Nationale d’Equitation.

Enjoy an aperitif in Bar le Canter , which is popular with many riding champions. You will also have a visit from the famous boot maker Joel Albert. Dinner this evening will be at another restaurant in Saumur.

Overnight at Le Patio in Saumur.

Day Three
There is no riding this morning. Instead you will experience a private clinic with an ‘Ecuyer’ of the Cadre Noir. Using a mixture of theory and demonstration, he will explain the step by step education of a horse, from 3 year olds to Grand Prix level.

Lunch will be at Ecole Nationale d’Equitation.

After lunch, ride for approximately 3 hours through the countryside and enjoy a spectacular view of the Loire. Visit the Romanesque churches of Chenehutte and Tréves.
Dinner this evening will be at a restaurant in Les Rosiers sur Loire.

Overnight at Manor de Beauregard  in Tréves.

Day Four
Today you will head off on horseback for approximately two and a half hours to Prieuriale of Notre Dame de Cunault, a masterpiece of Romanesque Art.

Explore the Prieuriale of Notre Dame de Cunault and have lunch at the l’Aubergade restaurant in Gennes.

After lunch, ride for around 2 hours along several megaliths, some of which trace back to settlements in the Neolithic era.

Enjoy an aperitif and dinner on a traditional boat of the Loire from Chenehutte to Saint Hilaire Saint Florent.

Overnight at Chateau Bouvet Ladubay in Saint Hilaire Saint Florent.

Day Five
This morning ride for around 2 hours. Ride along the sandy tracks of Ecole Nationale d’Equitation to Château de Marson. There should be lots of opportunities for cantering through the grounds of the riding school.

Lunch will be at a special restaurant in troglodyte caves.

This afternoon’s ride (c. 2.5 hours) takes you to Pierre et Lumiére (underground museum of sculptures). This underground museum was opened by Yann Bouchard, who has a passion for the buildings in his native region and Philippe Cormand, who is a talented sculpture who created all the pieces in the museum. www.pierre-et-lumiere.com

Your ride continues along the Loire River.

There will be an evening gala performance from the famous Cadre Noir de Saumur. Dinner will be at a restaurant in Saumur.

Overnight at Chateau Bouvet Ladubay in Saint Hilaire Saint Florent.

Day Six
After breakfast depart the Chateau. Your driver will transfer you from Château Bouvet Ladubay to Saumur train station (payable locally).

Du overnatter i elegante små familiedrevne hoteller som er konvertert fra slott og andre herskapsboliger. Noen ganger vil du bo i et gjestehus på eiendommen i stedet for selve slottet.

HVORDAN KOMME SEG DIT: Loiredalen ligger noen timer sør for Paris med bil eller tog (1 time hvis man reiser med TGV). Det er gode togforbindelser via Paris. Hvis du ankommer med tog trenger du taxi fra stasjonen til startsted for rideturen, samt fra slutten av rideturen tilbake til togstasjonen (betales lokalt).

Normandie er i den nordvestlige delen av Frankrike. Du kan ta toget til Bayeux via Paris og Rennes.

Klima:
Pga sin nordlige breddegrad og nærhet til kysten får ikke Normandie de høye temperaturene som en ser andre steder i Frankrike og været kan være uforutsigbart. På sommeren er det ikke uvanlig at dag temperaturen kan komme opp i 27˚C og vintermånedene er relativt milde.
