Marokko ligger tett på Europa, men har sin egen unike kultur som et resultat av innflytelse fra berbere, arabere og europere. Fra sanden i Sahara til Atlasfjellene –  Marokko har et variert og spennende landskap. Atlas fjellkjeden går gjennom midten av landet. Blant de høye gyldne tinder opp mot over 4000 m finnes områder med furu, eik og sedertre, åpen beitemark og små innsjøer.

Toubkhal Trail er et spennende ritt gjennom Atlasfjellene og Toubkal, som er det høyeste fjellet i Marokko på 4 167 moh – og Afrikas nest høyeste fjell etter Kilimanjaro.

Turene starter og slutter på en komfortabel lodge fra hvor  du følger fjellveier og stier og rir på en høyde mellom 1500 m og 3100 m. Denne turen kan bare gjøres på sommern, da mange av disse stiene og passene er stengt om vinteren på grunn av snø.

I tillegg til Toubkal Trail, tilbyr vi en rekke ulike Desert Trails – ørkenturer samt en tur langs Atlanterhavskysten sør for Essouraira hvor du kan ri langs strender og gjennom Argan skoger. Det er mulighet å velge turer med camping eller overnatting på hotell.

Andre marokkanske turer inkluderer Hester, sanddyner og nomader, hvor du hver kveld bor på på en komfortabel riad (lodge) eller hytte.

Hestene er Berb Arabere og hovedsakelig hingster. De er godt skolert og oppfører seg ordentlig på turene og det det eneste du trenger å huske (som gjelder for alle rideturer) men som er ennå viktigere når man rir hingster) er å holde god avstand til de andre hestene hele tiden.

Ridningen er en blanding av tempo som tilpasses terrenget og det er rask tempo enkelte steder. Du må være trygg i alle gangarter og med ridning i åpent terreng og ha kontroll på hesten i raskt tempo. Du må også være i god fysisk form siden du må leie hesten til fots ned brattere områder. Turene er ikke egnet for nervøse ryttere.

Terrenget varierer. Noen steder er det veldig steinete og egner seg bare for skritting. I andre områder er det veldig mykt og ikke egnet for raskere tempo. Der terrenget tillater det vil det være mulighet for trav og galopp som kan være på hardere underlag.

Salene er i engelsk til med god kvalitet. Gjestene hjelper normalt til med stell og oppsaling av egen hest, men det er hjelp til rådighet hele tiden hvis du skulle trenge eller ønske det.

Det ris i 3-5 timer om dagen. Vektbegrensningen er 90 kg.

 

Det er 3 forskjellige turer å velge mellom:

Mountains and Deserts of Marrakech (Comfortable accommodation)

This exciting horse trail takes you through the High Atlas Mountains and close to the towering flanks of Jbel (Mount) Toubkal, at 4,167m the highest mountain in North Africa. These stunning mountains and valleys are a world apart from the bustle of Marrakech and it is a place of peace and seclusion. Here you will see people, villages and a way of life which is unchanged for centuries.

Starting from Terres d’Amanar you follow mountain trails & paths and ride at an altitude between 1500 m & 3100 m. This trail can only be done in summer because many of these trails and passes are closed due to snow in winter.

You should be a confident rider fit enough for an average of 5 hours in the saddle each day. Much of the riding will be at a walk (c. 70%), but there will also be opportunities for trot (c. 15%) and canters, which may be fast (15%).

Please note that you may have to get off and lead your horse.

The following is the proposed itinerary but please note that changes are possible due to weather and local conditions. On occasions the trail may also run in reverse.

Day One

Arrive at Marrakech airport and transfer to Terres D’Amanar (45 minutes drive). Depending on your arrival time you may have a chance to meet the horses. Dinner & overnight in Terres d’Amanar.

Day Two

The horses will be tacked up so that everyone has a chance to try out their horse and the guide can check everyone is safe. After the ride briefing and equipment double check the ride sets off.

This first day will take you along a trail and through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains until you reach the charming hotel in the Akriche village.

Dinner and overnight at Ferme d’Hote (approx. 4.5 hours riding)

Day Three

This morning you ride through the Azaghar plateau, an agricultural area with breath-taking views. The land in this area is very fertile and is used for growing cereal crops. Enjoy a picnic by the river.

In the afternoon you ride along Lalla Takerkoust lake and on through the N’Fis Oued river. Follow the river until you reach your hotel which overlooks the Takerkoust Lake.

Dinner and overnight in Dar Sitoun (approx. 5 hours riding)

Day Four

This morning continue riding along the N’Fis Oued river and the altitude will gradually increase. Have a picnic lunch by the river.

After lunch you will climb in the direction of Achfile village. From the village you will have spectacular views towards the Haouz Plain. Continue riding along the mountain paths before climbing up a pass in the direction of the Ouirgane Dam.

Dinner and overnight in Chez Momo (approx. 5 hours riding)

Day Five

Today enjoy the Ouirgane valley, where crops vary due to the water flowing in the area.

In the afternoon you climb down the trail of the Toubkal National Park until you reach the beautiful village of Tassa Ouirgane.

Return to the same guesthouse as the previous evening. Dinner and overnight in Chez Momo (approx. 4 hours riding)

Day Six

Continue on your journey through the Tassa Ouirgane valley which is dotted with little Berber villages and surrounded by terraced cultivated fields. Climb up the mountain and ride through the village of Tenzerte which seems to be clinging to the mountain edge. Have a picnic lunch in the shade of some oak trees.

In the afternoon ride through a forest of oak, juniper and pistachio trees. The village of Asni is at the end of this forest and is where you will spend the night.

Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse (approx. 5 hours riding)

Day Seven

Your last day of riding will take you through the village of Asni and back through the forest of oaks and junipers until you reach the Khelout Pass. From here you will have splendid views over the Haouz Plain and Toubkal summit which stands at 4,167 metres (the highest one in North Africa).

In the afternoon enjoy your last canters as you ride back to Terres d’Amanar. Say your goodbyes to your horse and the guides before being transferred back to Marrakech.

Dinner and overnight at Les Trois Palmiers Hotel in Marrakech (approx. 4.5 hours riding)

Day Eight

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

oubkal Mountain Trail

This exciting horse trail takes you through the High Atlas Mountains and close to the towering flanks of Jbel (Mount) Toubkal, at 4,167m. the highest mountain in North Africa and second only to Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. These stunning mountains and valleys are a world apart from the bustle of Marrakech and it is a place of peace and seclusion. Here you will see people, villages and a way of life which is unchanged for centuries.

Starting from Terres d’Amanar you follow mountain trails & paths and ride at an altitude between 1500 m & 3100 m. This trail can only be done in summer because many of these trails and passes are closed due to snow in winter.

This is the most challenging of all the Moroccan trails because it involves a lot of climbing and some of it on foot. You need to have good physical strength but will be rewarded by spectacular mountain scenery.

The first and last night are spent at the comfortable Terres d’Amanar and you stay in simple camps when on the trail. The support vehicle normally meets you for lunch and goes ahead to set up camp.

You should be a confident rider fit enough for an average of 5 hours in the saddle each day.  Much of the riding will be at a walk (c. 60%), but there will also be opportunities for trot (c. 25%) and canters, which may be fast (15%).

Please note that you may have to get off and lead your horse.

The following is the proposed itinerary but please note that changes are possible due to weather and local conditions. On occasions the trail may also run in reverse.

Day One

Arrive at Marrakech airport and transfer to Terres D’Amanar (45 minutes drive).
Accommodation can either be in Berber style tents (4 to a tent with shared showers and loos) or you may wish to upgrade to a very comfortable room in the main hotel. Depending on your arrival time you may have a chance to meet the horses. Dinner & overnight in Terres d’Amanar.

Day Two – Terres D’amanar to Azib Tatult

The horses will be tacked up so that everyone has a chance to try out their horse and the guide can check everyone is safe. After the ride briefing and equipment double check the ride sets off. This first day will take you along a trail and through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains until you reach the camping place next to Tatult village.  (approx. 3.5 hours riding)

Day Three – Aziz Tatult to Tassa Wourgane Saline

Continue riding on the trail before climbing up a path in the direction of the N’Kik plateau. From there you will have spectacular views towards the Amizmiz Valley and the Takerkoust Lake. After Tizi N’Ousaud pass you stop for a picnic break.

In the afternoon you climb down the trail and follow a path across a forest of thuya & green oaks until you reach your camping spot by the village Tassa Wourgane Saline. (approx. 5.5 hours riding)

Day Four – Tassa Wourgane Saline to Tizi Zougarine

Today you ride across Tassa Ouirgane valley and enjoy the fresh air by Azzadne Oued (river) with its pretty Berber villages. Picnic by the river in Azerfssane. The afternoon will be spent in Azzadne valley along mountain paths before you take the trail to Tiziane village.
Overnight in a lodge (approx. 5 hours riding)

Day Five – Tizi Zougarine to Ounskra

This morning you climb in the direction of Tizi N’Oudide pass (at 2100 m). Then you ride down to Matate village overlooking Gheghaya valley. Enjoy a picnic by the river in Aguerssiwale. In the afternoon you and your horses climb again to Aguerssiwale pass and then along the superb D’Imnane valley with its little villages nestled at the foot of the mountains. Camp in Ounskra. (approx. 6 hours riding)

Day Six – Tachdirte / Tiselit

Today you will reach Tizi N’Addi (3100 m) which will offer a wonderful view over the High Atlas and the Toubkal Summit (at 4167 m, the highest one in North Africa). You then ride through the Oukaïmeden plateau which is a winter sport resort and have your picnic right after the Tizi ‘N Ouka pass (2800 m). In the afternoon, ride down the trail overlooking the Haouz plain until you reach Tiselit, where the camp will be set up.  (approx. 5 ½ hours riding)

Day Seven – Tiselit to Terre D’Amanar

Your last day riding will take you to the village of Asni through a forest of oaks & junipers. Have your picnic in the shade of the Alep pine trees at the foot of Djebel Choucht. In the afternoon you enjoy the last canters of the trail as you ride back to Terres d’Amanar. Dinner and overnight in tents (4 pax) at Terres d’Amanar or upgrade to a room in the main hotel. (approx. 4 hours riding)

Day Eight

You are transferred to the airport for your flight. Depending on your flight time a visit of Marrakech can be arranged. (may be extra cost)

Den første og siste natten er på Terres d’Amanar og resten i en enkel camp som flyttes hver dag. En følgebil møter dere hver dag for lunsj, der det er mulig, og deretter fortsetter den videre for å sette opp neste campleir.

Når camper bor dere to personer i kuppeltelt med en liten «platting» i hver ende for bagasjen. Du kan bestille eget telt. Skum madrasser følger med, men du må ta med engen sovepose og campingpute. Normalt hjelper alle til med å sette opp teltene som dere sover i.

Det er et stort «messetelt» hvor dere spiser og kan slappe av, og det er også et dusj telt og et kjemisk toalett. Det er en egen dusjtelt og du vil få en stor bøtte med varmt vann for dusjing.

Hvis du ikke ønsker å campe kan du se på turen «Mountains and Desert of Marrakech» hvor du har veldig komfortabel overnatting. Der er det to forskjellige typer overnatting, avhengig av ditt budsjett. Den komfortable overnattingen er i riads, små hoteller eller gjestehus. Hvis det er få rom tilgjengelig kan det være nødvendig å være 3 på rommet. (Riad er et tradisjonelt marokkans hus med en indre hage eller gårdsplass.)

På luksus alternativet er overnattingen i det øvre sjiktet  – fine luksuriøse hoteller og riads i flotte omgivelser.

På Mountain & Desert er det et tillegg på 900 NOK per person hvis 3 på turen. På komforturen er det 2 400 NOK i tillegg hvis 2 personer eller 2 800 NOK for luksusovernatting.

ENKELTROMSTILLEGG: Betales hvis ønsker å være garantert å få enkeltrom. Hvis du kan dele rom vil du få dette tillegget refundert hvis vi finner en av samme kjønn å dele med.

På Toubkhal Trail koster det 400 NOK for telt for 1 person for hele uken. Tillegget for overnatting i enkeltrom første og siste natten koster 1 050 NOK (2 netter). Det er også enkeltromtillegg på Mountain & Desert of Marrkech hvis vi ikke finne en du kan dele med.

Klima:

Marokko er en helårsdestinasjon. Den høye indre delen av Marokko kan også besøkes året rundt, selv om det kan bli kaldt om vinteren. Toubkal rittet avholdes i sommermånedene når fjellene er fri for snø og frost. På den første og siste dagen av turen kan det bli varmt da en er i lavlandet, men med en gang en kommer opp i fjellene er temperaturene behagelige.
